How to Write a Killer Brand Bio for Your Online Business

Darlene Hawley

Your brand bio is one of the easiest ways people can get to know you, decide if they like you and instantaneously identify if they can trust you.

When growing your online business people must get to know who you are and what you’re about pretty quickly.

Your brand bio is one of the easiest ways people can get to know you, decide if they like you and instantaneously identify if they can trust you.

They want to know if they can relate to you and if they’re going to want to spend time around you and the quickest and easiest way to do that is by reading your bio. It’s like a quick snapshot into who you are and how you show up in the world.

I’ve created a simple framework that allows your audience to get to know you and be able to identify quickly if they wanted to lean in and learn more from you.

Step 1 -Introduce yourself
Your people want to get to know you, so share a bit about yourself so that they can get to know you. We’re more than just business owners, so give them a peek into who you are as a person. Be more personal, share about your family, traits that you’re known for, where you’re from or how you like to spend your free time.

Example: Darlene is a mom of 4, wife, connector and dream builder.

Step 2- Your Summary Hook
Your summary hook is where you get to connect with your audience. Imagine you’re at a cocktail party and someone walks up to you and introduces themselves and then asks what you do. This is a great way to connect and clearly communicate what you do so that they are leaning in and wanting to know more about you because either they need your services or they know someone who does.

If you’re struggling to answer these questions, then let’s take a deeper dive into who your ideal client is. Head over here to get clear on who you want to work with and how to get to know them.

Ask yourself these five questions:
  • Who are you?
  • What do you call yourself?
  • Who do you desire to help?
  • What immediate struggle does your client need to overcome?
  • What is the solution you provide?
  • What is your clients big goal or dream?

Now break it down and fill it in below.
I AM(NAME)AND I'M A (INSERT TITLE). I HELP(WHO DO YOU DESIRE TO HELP) TO (WHAT IMMEDIATE STRUGGLE DOES YOUR CLIENT NEED TO OVERCOME) BY(WHAT IS THE SOLUTION YOU PROVIDE) SO THEY (CLIENTS BIG GOAL OR DREAM).

Step 3- Accomplishments
Share some of your wins and accomplishments from your business or past careers. Brag a little, if you don’t share this information no one will know what you’ve accomplished and what you’ve overcome to get where you are today.

Step 4- Picture
Choose a brand bio photo that expresses who you are and represents your business the way you want to be seen by your community. I always encourage you to use the same photo along each of the different platforms so that you can easily be recognized.

Now that you’ve created your brand bio you can share it everywhere. You can use your brand bio in all of your marketing, it’s the perfect introduction when you’re:
  • Attending a networking event
  • On your homepage/about me page on your website
  • When you’re featured on a podcast or being interviewed
  • Featured in a guest post
  • During all of your videos
  • On your social media channels
  • On your blog
Share your brand bio below or email me, I would love to see it!
